The School of Physical Education and Sports, established by the Decree-Law No. 496 dated August 18, 1993, was closed and transformed into the Faculty of Sports Sciences by the Council of Ministers' Decision (2013/5074) published in the Official Gazette on July 24, 2013. The Department of Recreation at our institution began its educational activities in the 2001-2002 academic year. The primary objectives of the faculty include improving the quality of life for people at the local, regional, national, and global levels; generating and spreading universal knowledge through education, research, and projects related to sports sciences; contributing to the development of healthy individuals through sports and social practices; supporting the adoption of sports as a lifestyle by society; and facilitating the enhancement of athletic talents.
Our curriculum was restructured in 2016 to align with the needs of the industry. The department's educational program covers topics related to the creation, implementation, and management of entertainment-based events and activities. The curriculum includes courses designed to provide students with theoretical and practical knowledge in areas such as types of recreation, education, health, technology, business, economics, tourism, communication, various activity types, event management, and project management.
Additionally, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the spring semester of the 2019-2020 academic year and the fall and spring semesters of the 2020-2021 academic year were conducted entirely through remote learning. Since our department reserves an annual quota of five students with disabilities, this has necessitated structural adjustments within the faculty.
